2016 World Championship (Day 6) - Trump returns for glory

The last two Last 16 round places left unoccupied found their owners yesterday, both Judd Trump and Kyren Wilson, putting on a tremendous and genuine snooker fight.

Judd Trump had to recover from a 6-3 (and then 7-3) lead as his opponent, the man who defeated him during last year UK Championship - Liang Wenbo - was practically on fire.

The interesting part was that even as the second session started the Chinese player was still the man to beat as he used a top break of 59 to extend his lead at 7-3.

Although things didn't look too bright for Trump, the "Ace in the Pack" won two tactical frames, seconded by a break of 54 to which he added a typical 106 to reduce the deficit at 7-6 by the mid-session interval.

The comeback was completed when the lads returned in the arena, thanks to a break of 43, but Trump didn't stop there as he added a 69 to take the lead of the match for the first time.

Wenbo barely managed to provisionally stop the "speeding train" by taking the 16th frame and draw level at 8-8, but from that point on the stars aligned for Trump's victory who used runs of 61 and 55 to win 10-8.

Joe Perry became another TOP 16 casualty as Kyren Wilson defeated him in a classic thriller match by 10-9.

The 2015 Shanghai Masters champion (interestingly enough he won the final 10-9 by beating Judd Trump), held a 5-4 overnight advantage over his opponent, but when their last session started "one-frame each" was basically the name of the game.

So if Perry opened the session with a 72 break to draw level, Wilson was responding with a perfectly cued 109 to restore his lead.

The players got stuck at nine apiece - the mighty decider - which Wilson finally won to go through to the next round and set a snooker meeting with Mark Allen.

Marco Fu met Scotland's Anthony McGill in the first Last 16 round match, the Hong Kong player ending the first session in control 5-3, Ali Carter imposing the same "snooker trend" on his opponent Alan McManus.

Day 7 World Championship match schedule:

10am

Marco Fu v Anthony McGill

2.30pm
Ali Carter v Alan McManus
Sam Baird v Mark Selby

7pm
